The time it takes for crack filling to dry will depend on the weather, the temperature of the ground, and the size of the crack. With these factors, it could take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24 hours before the crack filling dries.
There are a couple of factors that cause asphalt to deteriorate including:
- Water: Rainwater or runoff seeps through the cracks of asphalt, damaging its base layer.
- Heavy traffic: 18-wheelers and large trucks with heavy weights will gradually wear down asphalt surfaces.
- Poor soil: poor quality soil around asphalt pavement can shift and settle, leading to cracks and structural instability over time.
We recommend seal coating asphalt every 2-3 years, depending on the level of traffic and exposure to weather conditions. Regular seal coating will protect asphalt from damage caused by UV rays, water, and chemicals, ensuring a longer lifespan and maintaining a smooth, attractive surface.
The best time of year to seal coat your paved surfaces is between May and October when temperatures are moderate and precipitation is minimal. Seal coating in the winter increases the chances of frozen ground or rain interfering with the process.
Although it’s possible to complete asphalt repairs or paving in cold or rainy weather, the process is best performed in dry conditions. Paving in warmer temperatures allows for asphalt to adhere and dry whereas rainy weather can delay the paving process and cause potential issues with the final result.
